Been thinking about switching - now is the time

Spring clean your finances with Unravelit.com this month. All the major energy companies have now increased their prices, so it's a great time to see how your supplier stacks up. And read on for some tips on how to save on that winter debt.

Last week saw the last of the big six energy companies increase prices. With a 15% increase, Scottish and Southern customers can now expect to pay an extra £130 a year for their gas and electricity…

But this is a great opportunity to save no matter who your supplier is. With all major price increases now in, you can compare your supplier with confidence, knowing that if you switch, your new supplier will not suddenly up prices again.

But with all these increases, are there really any savings available? Definitely!

Of the big six, the difference between the most expensive dual fuel tariff and the cheapest for an average user is well over £200! And that’s not including green or specialty tariffs.

And there are more savings available. If you’re reading this, you’re online and your energy account could be too. Most suppliers give extra discounts for managing your account online. Some just call their cheapest tariffs “Internet” because they are available for signup through sites like Unravelit.com!

A couple of minutes could save you over £200. It’s really that easy!

So you're a bit short this month, you take some cash from your credit card and only pay the minimum balance. We’ve all done it. And your credit card company wants you to keep doing it and doing it.

You see, the more minimum payments you make, the longer your balance stays and the more interest they make! In fact, paying just the 2% minimum every month (and not spending any more on your card!) could take you 30 years to clear your balance with thousands and thousands of pounds in interest.

Add half again to your payment and you’ll halve how long it takes to pay off your balance, and you'll only pay half as much interest. So, if you’re thinking of just paying £30, make it £45 and you’ll save yourself a bundle.

But why pay them any interest at all? You could just transfer that balance to a 0% card and pay it away. Even with the credit crunch, we’re still listing some great cards you can apply to right here on Unravelit.com.
